StepWISE: The toolkit for planning your energy and climate actions
This workshop will present an innovative framework developed within the Step-WISE project to empower local and regional authorities in designing, implementing and monitoring integrated Clean Energy Transition Plans. The Step-WISE toolkit combines digital baseline modelling, physics-based energy simulations and dynamic scenario analysis to support evidence-based decision-making, helping administrations prioritise interventions and monitor progress towards climate neutrality. Participants will explore how this digital approach facilitates data-driven energy and climate planning and enhances the autonomy of municipalities as early adopters of sustainable transition pathways. Complementing this, insights from the PLENTY-LIFE project will illustrate how its capacity-building programme strengthens institutional and technical skills for integrated spatial and energy planning. Furthermore, the workshop will draw connections with the DHC SwEEtch project, highlighting its structured approach to mapping and planning the recovery and integration of renewable and waste heat sources in district heating and cooling networks.
Together, these initiatives provide a comprehensive perspective on how digital tools, spatial planning integration, and advanced thermal network management can synergistically accelerate the decarbonisation of European territories targeting municipality officers, utilities, urban and energy planning consultants.
