Architect
Margherita Rago is an architect specialized in built heritage conservation. She holds degrees from Sapienza University of Rome, the University of Minho, and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. Currently a PhD candidate in Safety, Risk and Vulnerability at the University of Genoa, her research addresses seismic and multi-hazard vulnerability at the urban scale, with a focus on the socioeconomic fragility associated with architectural and urban development.
In 2022, she collaborated with the Getty Conservation Institute (Los Angeles) on projects in Peru and Myanmar, including the conservation and seismic strengthening of earthen heritage and the post-earthquake damage assessment of the UNESCO site of Bagan. She has also worked on cultural heritage, urban development, and sustainable tourism projects in the Global South, funded by international organizations. Her multidisciplinary background informs research at the intersection of heritage conservation, social participation, and disaster risk reduction.
