Zaheer Khan is a Full Professor of Computer Science at the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol, UK. His research focuses on intelligent and secure distributed systems, emphasizing innovative software processes and methods. He leverages cutting-edge technologies such as AI, blockchain, IoT, digital twins, and cloud/edge computing to address complex challenges.
With over 20 years of research and development experience, Professor Khan has contributed to numerous high-profile international projects funded by European and UK research bodies. These include FP6 Health-e-Child, FP6 HUMBOLDT, FP7 UrbanAPI, EPSRC HEAT@UWE, FP7 DECUMANUS, FP7 LifeWatch, Horizon 2020 Smarticipate, H2020 CURE, Horizon Europe/UKRI GREENGAGE, Horizon Europe CLMS-Cities, UKRI KTP on efficient waste energy recycling, and the British Council’s Knowledge Exchange on Smart City Governance in Malaysia.
Across these projects, he has designed and implemented smart solutions for privacy-aware participatory urban governance, mobility, and environmental challenges. Professor Khan currently leads the Smart Cities Theme within the Computer Science Research Centre at UWE’s School of Computing and Creative Technologies.
