Empowering Cities & Regions: IN-PLAN Training for Green Spatial Planning
This interactive session is part of the EU LIFE IN-PLAN project, which aims to support local and regional authorities in integrating energy, climate, and spatial planning into a coherent framework for sustainable development. The training introduces the IN-PLAN Practice, a replicable approach that helps cities and regions align spatial planning decisions with climate neutrality and energy transition objectives, while ensuring political commitment and the allocation of dedicated resources.
Spatial planning plays a decisive role in shaping the future of urban and regional development. Yet, it often operates in isolation from sectoral strategies on energy, mobility, and climate adaptation. The IN-PLAN methodology addresses this gap by equipping practitioners with practical tools to connect these policy areas, enabling authorities to design more resilient and climate-proof territories.
The session will follow a highly participatory format, combining expert presentations, real-world case studies, and hands-on group exercises. Participants will be guided through the IN-PLAN Practice and its supporting tools, such as the IN-PLAN Checklist, which helps authorities prioritize actions and identify key areas when updating or implementing spatial plans.
Through facilitated discussions, peer exchange, and collaborative problem-solving, attendees will gain both knowledge and practical skills to apply integrated spatial planning in their own contexts. By fostering capacity-building and co-creation, this session empowers participants to act as multipliers of the IN-PLAN approach, enhancing cross-sectoral collaboration and strengthening the role of spatial planning in the transition toward climate neutrality.
